Sapt Kranti Express: New Train Number & No Superfast Surcharge!
Sapt Kranti Express loses Superfast status and gets a new train number 15577/78. Learn how this affects your ticket bookings and fares.

Passengers traveling on the Sapt Kranti Express will soon notice a significant change in their travel details. The East Central Railway has announced a major reclassification for the train, which includes a change in its official identification number and its service status.
Loss of Superfast Status and New Train Numbers
In a recent decision, the East Central Railway has removed the 'Superfast' status from 20 trains within its jurisdiction, with the Sapt Kranti Express being one of the prominent names on this list. Due to this change in classification, the train's identification number is also being updated.
Currently, the Sapt Kranti Express operates under the numbers 12557/12558. However, once the new system is implemented, it will be officially designated as 15577/15578.
Why is this change happening?
Railway authorities have cited two primary reasons for this reclassification:
- Operational Speed: The train's current running speed does not meet the specific criteria required to maintain the 'Superfast' designation.
- Track Infrastructure: The train's reliance on single-line sections affects its overall efficiency and speed capabilities.
Important Dates for Passengers
It is crucial for commuters to note the timeline to avoid confusion during ticket bookings:
- Until December 31, 2026: The train will continue to operate under its existing numbers, 12557/12558.
- From January 1, 2027: The new numbers, 15577/15578, will become effective for all operations and bookings.
Good News for Your Pocket
While the change in number might seem like a mere administrative update, there is a significant financial benefit for travelers. Since the train will no longer hold 'Superfast' status, the superfast surcharge previously applied to these tickets will be eliminated. This means passengers can expect a slight reduction in their total travel cost.
Railway officials have clarified that while passengers must use the updated numbers for future bookings, the actual service and route of the train will remain completely unaffected.
