Why is the project delayed and what is the current status?
Rail Minister Ashwini Vaishnav laid the foundation via video conferencing on October 1, 2023, and formal construction began on September 6, 2024. The project had a target completion period of 24 months, which should have ended by September 2026. However, as of May 9, 2026, 20 months have passed, but only half of the work is finished. Principal Chief Engineer Ashutosh Kumar recently reprimanded the construction agency for the slow pace, noting that even demolished offices have not been rebuilt after more than a year.
