SECR Launches Better On-Board Services in Chhattisgarh

The South East Central Railway (SECR) has officially implemented a new policy for SECR on-board services in Chhattisgarh, aiming to significantly enhance hygiene and passenger amenities. This initiative, launched under directives from the Railway Board, is designed to ensure a cleaner and more comfortable travel experience for all passengers, with a specific focus on improving conditions in general coaches.

Focus on General Coach Hygiene

In a major move to bridge the gap in passenger comfort, the new policy ensures that general coaches will now receive the same level of sanitation attention that was previously reserved for AC and sleeper classes. By elevating the cleaning standards for non-reserved coaches, the SECR aims to provide a more equitable and dignified travel experience for all commuters.

Multi-Skilled Staff for Instant Solutions

To address common technical issues that arise during journeys, the railway has introduced a unique cross-training program for its staff. Sanitation personnel are being trained in basic electrical and plumbing tasks alongside their primary cleaning duties. This allows them to provide immediate on-board solutions for minor problems, such as:

  • Faulty or flickering lighting
  • Malfunctioning ceiling fans
  • Water supply shortages in washrooms

Strict Cleaning Protocols and AI Monitoring

To maintain high standards of cleanliness, the SECR has established a rigorous sanitation schedule. The cleaning of lavatories, entryways, passenger compartments, and dustbins will follow a strict frequency from the starting station to the final destination:

  1. Peak Hours (6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.): Cleaning will be conducted every hour.
  2. Off-Peak Hours: Cleaning will be conducted every two hours.

Monitoring these efforts will be handled by an advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based system. Staff members are required to upload time-stamped and geo-tagged photographs of their cleaning progress through a dedicated mobile application. These uploads are then verified by a central control room to ensure strict compliance with the new protocols.

Trains Covered and Waste Management

The rollout of these improved services is currently active on several key routes, including:

  • Chhattisgarh Express (Bilaspur-Amritsar)
  • Humsafar Express
  • Durg-Udhampur Superfast Express

Furthermore, the policy places a heavy emphasis on environmental protection. To prevent track-side pollution, all refuse collected during the journey must be stored in reinforced, sealed bags. This waste is strictly prohibited from being dumped along the tracks and can only be unloaded at designated CMM-registered stations.
