Commuters on the Shahjahanpur-Sitapur railway line are facing difficulties due to waterlogging at the railway underpass. The underpass, located on the route to Hariharpur Banjariya in the Uchauliya police station area, filled with water after the first rainfall. Why is the underpass filling with water
Railway engineers stated that the groundwater level in the surrounding area is high. Because of this, water seeps into the underpass not only during the rainy season but also in other months. This continuous seepage leads to waterlogging, which troubles the public and also damages the railway structure over time.
What steps did Indian Railways take
To solve this recurring problem, the Northern Railway Lucknow Division and Moradabad Division took specific actions. The Lakhanoria underpass, located between Uchauliya and Jang Bahadur Ganj stations, was closed for a month from March 20 to April 20, 2026, for repair work. This decision was shared with the District Magistrate (DM) and Superintendent of Police (SP) through official correspondence by Construction Engineer Pawan Mishra to prevent waterlogging before the monsoon.
