Sonipat Railway Station Update: New foot overbridge, lifts and escalators to be operational by May end
Passengers at Sonipat Railway Station will soon have a much easier time moving around the platforms. Under the Amrit Bharat Station Project, the railway administration is installing a new foot overbridge, four lifts, and four escalators. These facilities are expected to be open for public use by the end of May.
What are the new facilities at Sonipat Station
The modernization work is being done to help daily commuters, especially senior citizens and women traveling with children. A new 12-meter wide foot overbridge is being built with a cost of 4.50 crore rupees. This bridge will feature circular sheds and stairs to protect passengers from weather conditions. Additionally, an emergency ramp is being constructed towards the Gud Mandi side to help patients and disabled passengers reach platforms via wheelchairs.

The overall redevelopment of Sonipat station involves a total investment of 29 crore rupees. The railway administration is focusing on making the station accessible for the 40,000 passengers who travel daily towards Delhi and Ambala. Official status of the work
DRM Delhi Division, Pushpesh Raman Tripathi, stated that instructions have been given to complete all works quickly to provide modern services. While the target for some works was March 2026, the current progress shows that the FOB structure and circular sheds are nearly complete. Only the shed installation on the stairs remains to be finished before the May deadline.
