Sultanpur Junction is getting a massive Rs 36.85 crore upgrade under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme

Sultanpur Junction under the Northern Railway Lucknow Division is transforming into a modern passenger-friendly hub with an allocated budget of Rs 36.85 crore. The ambitious redevelopment project is part of the nationwide Amrit Bharat Station Scheme launched by the Ministry of Railways in December 2022. Construction work is currently accelerating to meet its master plan objectives after two years of steady progress. Key highlights of the project include a new two-story station building, a 12-meter-wide foot-over bridge functioning as a roof plaza, executive lounges, digital display boards, and dedicated secondary entrances to ease crowding.

Execution and Phase One Details

The redevelopment tender has been awarded to Haryana-based Gorza Construction Company, which has been allocated Rs 19 crore specifically for the execution of the first phase. This initial stage involves major demolitions to clear space for modern infrastructure. The first phase requires the demolition of the Eastern Colony, Northern Railway Men’s Union offices, the lobby, and the existing station building to build a brand new two-story station structure. Development plans also feature a redesigned main entrance with an improved circulating area and a brand new secondary entrance built to effectively mitigate passenger congestion at the station.

Modern Passenger Amenities and Infrastructure

Passengers travelling through Sultanpur Junction can look forward to world-class facilities once the upgrade is fully complete. Key infrastructure upgrades feature a 12-meter-wide foot-over bridge designed to function as a roof plaza, connecting all platforms seamlessly with sturdy cover-over sheds. Furthermore, the station will feature an executive lounge, a comfortable dedicated waiting area, an aesthetic portico reflecting local architectural styles, and thoroughly improved drainage systems. Passenger experience will see a massive boost through the installation of standardized signage and modern digital display boards, alongside extensive platform surface improvements for better safety and hygiene.
