Indian Railways is launching a brand new semi-high-speed train connection between Gujarat and Rajasthan. The Railway Board approved the Surat to Udaipur City Vande Bharat Express on August 31 2026. This service makes history as the very first Vande Bharat train to originate from Surat. Union leaders and local officials have welcomed the new route which aims to boost regional travel and connectivity just ahead of the festive season. The new Surat to Udaipur City Vande Bharat Express will operate six days a week except on Tuesdays which are reserved for maintenance. The train will cover the distance of approximately 690 kilometers in about 7 hours and 30 minutes. Primary maintenance will take place in Surat with supplemental watering facilities set up at Vadodara and Asarva.
Passengers can plan their journeys easily using the official schedule released by the Western Railway zone.
Train 26903 will depart from Surat at 6:10 AM and arrive at Udaipur City at 1:40 PM. For the return journey
train 26904 will depart from Udaipur City at 3:35 PM and reach Surat at 11:00 PM. The modern semi-high-speed service features an 8-car coach composition designed for passenger comfort.
To serve commuters along the corridor effectively the train will make nine commercial stops.
The approved halts include Bharuch Vadodara Anand Maninagar Asarva Himmatnagar Shamlaji Road Dungarpur and Zawar. This wide coverage ensures that travelers from multiple towns can easily access the service.
This newly approved Vande Bharat train will replace the existing 26963/26964 Udaipur City-Asarva Vande Bharat Express which had been running since February 2026. Railway authorities planned the rollout to begin within days of the late August approval with expected integration into the timetable right before the Navratri festival.
