The Suriyawan railway bridge opening marks a major breakthrough for commuters and transport operators in the region. After years of waiting, the structure is officially open to traffic, promising to resolve chronic congestion issues in Bhadohi.

Official Inauguration

Traffic operations officially commenced on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, following a formal inauguration ceremony. Former BJP MLA Ravindra Nath Tripathi led the event, performing the ribbon-cutting ceremony to open the bridge for public use.

The bridge is situated on the Machhlishahr-Bhadohi segment of Highway 731B via Varanasi. It provides a vital direct route for commuters traveling to Bhadohi, allowing them to bypass the eastern gate of the Suriyawan railway station.

Ending the Congestion Nightmare

For a long time, the eastern gate of the Suriyawan railway station was a notorious bottleneck, frequently causing lengthy traffic jams. The new overbridge is expected to significantly mitigate these issues by providing a seamless bypass.

The benefits for the local economy and daily commuters are substantial:

  • Faster Travel: Drivers of large vehicles are estimated to save approximately one hour of travel time.
  • Heavy Vehicle Support: The bridge will serve as a critical artery for heavy truck movement, particularly during night hours.
  • Regional Development: The project improves both the safety and convenience of daily commutes for the local population.

Two Years in the Making

The construction of the bridge was a two-year endeavor managed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). Prior to its official opening, the structure successfully passed a weight capacity test on October 14, 2026.

During the assessment phase, NHAI official O.P. Prasad had expressed optimism that the bridge would be operational in time to facilitate the seamless flow of heavy vehicular traffic across the region.
