Swiggy Expands Train Meal Delivery Service to 201 Stations Across India
Train passengers across India can now enjoy a much wider variety of meals delivered right to their seats as online food delivery platform Swiggy scales up its railway catering partnership. Swiggy has officially expanded its Food on Train service to cover 201 railway stations nationwide. This major service milestone highlights how ordering meals during long journeys has evolved beyond traditional pantry cars and platform vendors into a seamless digital experience.
Since its initial launch in March 2024 across 66 stations, the IRCTC partnership has witnessed an extraordinary 12-fold growth leading up to August 2026. According to Sidharth Bhakoo, Chief Business Officer of Swiggy Food Marketplace, the convenience of seat delivery has resonated strongly with passengers of all age groups, including Gen Z travellers. Interestingly, data reveals that Tier II and Tier III cities are recording twice the adoption rate of metropolitan areas, proving that demand for quality food on trains is booming across smaller towns.
New App Features for Train Travellers
To make ordering easier while on the move, Swiggy has rolled out dedicated digital features tailored for rail passengers. The newly introduced Search by Train feature lets users simply enter their train number or train name to check available restaurant menus along their route. Additionally, a new 99 Store Widget caters to budget-conscious travellers looking for affordable meal options during their journey.
What Passengers Are Ordering
Consumer preference trends show a clear shift towards wholesome regional meals rather than fast food. Thalis currently make up over 65 percent of total train orders, showing a strong demand for traditional comfort food. Regional treats and beverages have also surged in popularity, with sales of sweets like rasgullas jumping by 110 percent. Traditional drinks are also winning over passengers, as lassi, buttermilk, and mojitos recorded growth rates of 60 percent, 40 percent, and 90 percent respectively, even as standard carbonated soft drinks experience a decline in orders.
Newly Added Railway Stations
As part of this expansive network growth, hungry travellers can now access the delivery service at several new locations. Newly added stations include Kolhapur, Wardha, Shahdol, Kakinada, Bharatpur, Chittoor, Thanjavur, Raigarh, Jamnagar, Indore, and Tundla. This continuous network expansion ensures that more passengers travelling on major trunk routes and regional lines can enjoy hot, hygienic food delivered directly to their train berths.
