Taj Express Shifts Terminal to Hazrat Nizamuddin from Nov 1
Taj Express (12279/12280) will shift its terminal from New Delhi to Hazrat Nizamuddin starting Nov 1, 2026. Check new timings here.

Commuters traveling on the popular Taj Express are in for a significant change. Indian Railways and the Northern Railway have officially announced that the train service will undergo a terminal shift starting from November 1, 2026.
Instead of originating from or terminating at the New Delhi Railway Station (NDLS), the service will now operate out of the Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station (NZM). This strategic move aims to streamline operations and ease the pressure on one of the nation's busiest terminals.
Updated Timings for Trains 12279 and 12280
With the change in terminal, passengers should take note of the revised departure and arrival times to avoid any inconvenience:
- Train 12280 (Hazrat Nizamuddin to Jhansi): The train will now depart from Hazrat Nizamuddin at 7:05 AM. This is a slight adjustment from its previous 6:55 AM departure from New Delhi.
- Train 12279 (Jhansi to Hazrat Nizamuddin): The incoming service is scheduled to terminate its journey at Hazrat Nizamuddin at 9:25 PM.
Why is the Terminal Shifting?
The decision, communicated via an official notification on October 23, 2026, is part of a broader plan to improve rail efficiency. The primary objectives include:
- Reducing Congestion: Moving the service will help decrease the heavy traffic load at the New Delhi terminal.
- Operational Optimization: The shift is designed to make rail operations smoother and more efficient for the Northern Railway.
What Remains Unchanged?
While the start and end points are changing, there is good news for passengers traveling between intermediate stations. The arrival and departure timings at all intermediate stops will remain exactly the same as the existing schedule.
Traveler Advisory: To ensure a smooth journey, passengers are urged to double-check the updated timetable on the IRCTC website or via the NTES mobile application before planning their trips.
