Commuters traveling on the popular Taj Express will soon notice a major change in their travel routine. In a strategic move to manage the heavy traffic congestion at the New Delhi Railway Station, Northern Railway has announced that the train's operational terminal is being relocated.
The Big Shift to Hazrat Nizamuddin
Starting from November 1, 2026, the Taj Express (operating under train numbers 12279 and 12280) will no longer begin or end its journey at the New Delhi terminal. Instead, the service will be shifted to the Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station.
This decision is part of a broader effort by Indian Railways to optimize station usage and reduce the intense pressure on the New Delhi terminal, which serves as one of the busiest railway hubs in the country.
Updated Timings for Train 12280 and 12279
With the change in the terminal station, there are slight adjustments to the departure and arrival timings. Passengers are advised to note the following updated schedule to avoid any travel disruptions:
Train No. 12280 (Delhi to Virangana Lakshmibai Jhansi)
- New Departure: 07:05 AM from Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station
- Previous Departure: 06:55 AM from New Delhi Railway Station
Train No. 12279 (Virangana Lakshmibai Jhansi to Delhi)
- New Arrival: 09:25 PM at Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station
- Previous Arrival: 09:07 PM at New Delhi Railway Station
What Stays the Same?
While the terminal station is changing, the route itself remains consistent. Northern Railway has clarified that the scheduled stoppages at all intermediate stations will remain unchanged. The train will continue to serve all its existing stops between Agra and Delhi, simply concluding its journey at Hazrat Nizamuddin instead of New Delhi.
