Passengers visiting Tatanagar Railway Station can now benefit from simplified drop-off rules and reduced parking tariffs following a recent administrative overhaul by the Chakradharpur Railway Division. Effective September 11, 2026, these passenger-friendly measures aim to resolve long-standing grievances regarding overcharging and poor service quality at the station premises. Under the new guidelines, visitors get access to a completely free dropping line at the main gate, while parking rates across various vehicle categories have seen a notable decrease. The administration has appointed a new parking operator, Sandeep Sharma, who has directed staff to maintain polite and respectful conduct toward commuters to avoid any disruption or complaints. Effective September 11, 2026, Tatanagar Railway Station introduced a fully free dropping line at the main gate and reduced parking charges. The initiative was launched by the Chakradharpur Railway Division following the appointment of a new parking operator. The Railway Protection Force will strictly monitor the free dropping zone to prevent vehicles from parking for extended durations.
Commuters will now pay significantly less for parking their vehicles at the station.
Bicycle parking charges are reduced from 6 rupees to 5 rupees, bike or scooter parking from 12 rupees to 10 rupees, three-wheeler parking from 18 rupees to 15 rupees, and car parking from 48 rupees to 40 rupees. Furthermore, charges for extended 12 to 24-hour parking durations and monthly passes have also been scaled down. These revisions directly address past controversies, such as an August 2025 incident where a commuter was erroneously charged 5,310 rupees for five hours of parking, drawing sharp criticism from MLA Saryu Roy. In another instance, the Chakradharpur Division considered imposing a hefty 10,000-rupee fine on a former contractor for issuing misleading slips to fleece passengers. Before the current operator took over, South Eastern Railway had awarded a temporary two-month parking management contract to Maa Tara Enterprises in May 2026.
To permanently resolve parking and congestion issues, Tatanagar Railway Station is slated for a massive redevelopment project.
The upcoming modernization plan features the construction of a modern three-story multi-level parking facility. This state-of-the-art infrastructure is designed to accommodate the rapidly growing number of travelers by allowing vehicles to park securely within the station premises with direct access to each floor.
