Tatkal Booking Schedule for October 1 Journeys Out
Indian Railways has officially announced the Tatkal booking schedule for passengers intending to travel on October 1, 2026. To ensure a smooth booking experience, travelers must adhere to specific timings and new regulatory protocols established by the railway administration.
Timings for AC and Non-AC Classes
According to the official protocol, Tatkal bookings for journeys scheduled for October 1 will commence on September 30, 2026. The booking windows are divided based on the class of travel:
- AC Classes: For 2A, 3A, CC, EC, and 3E, the booking window opens at 10:00 AM.
- Non-AC Classes: For Sleeper class, FC, and 2S, the booking window opens at 11:00 AM.
Mandatory Aadhaar OTP and Agent Restrictions
To curb misuse and ensure fair access to tickets, several security measures are in place. Since July 15, 2026, Aadhaar-based One-Time Password (OTP) authentication has become mandatory for all online Tatkal bookings. This step is designed to verify the identity of the passenger during the transaction.
Additionally, authorized railway ticketing agents are prohibited from booking Tatkal tickets during the first 30 minutes of the opening window for both AC and non-AC classes. This restriction aims to give individual passengers a better chance at securing seats.
Updates for Physical Counter Bookings
Passengers opting for the physical Passenger Reservation System (PRS) counters should be aware of the crowd management system. A token system, implemented on August 1, 2026, is currently in use. For both AC and non-AC categories, tokens are issued between 8:30 AM and 9:30 AM to manage the flow of passengers at the stations.
Central Railway Ticket Checking Drive
In a separate announcement, Central Railway has scheduled a month-long ticket checking drive. From October 1 to October 31, 2026, officials will focus on verifying reservation quotas and concession tickets. Passengers are strongly advised to carry their original identification at all times during their journey to avoid any inconvenience.
