Tatkal Booking Guide for October 17 Travel: Timings & New Rules

Passengers planning to travel on October 17, 2026, need to be prepared for the upcoming Tatkal ticket booking window. Indian Railways has issued a reminder regarding the specific schedule and updated security protocols that travelers must follow to secure their seats using the Tatkal booking schedule.

Important Booking Timings for October 17 Travel

Under the Tatkal scheme, tickets must be booked exactly one day in advance, excluding the actual date of the journey. For travel on October 17, the booking window will officially open on October 16, 2026.

To ensure a smooth experience, travelers should note the following time slots based on the class of travel:

  • AC Classes (1A, 2A, 3A, CC, EC, and 3E): Booking starts at 10:00 AM IST.
  • Non-AC Classes (Sleeper and others): Booking starts at 11:00 AM IST.

Mandatory Aadhaar-Based Security Requirements

In a move to enhance security and streamline online transactions, the IRCTC platform now mandates stricter authentication. As of October 2026, all passengers booking via the online portal must undergo Aadhaar authentication. Additionally, an Aadhaar-based OTP verification is required to complete transactions, making it essential for travelers to have their mobile numbers linked to their Aadhaar for seamless booking.

Fair Access: Restrictions for Authorized Agents

To provide fair access to individual passengers and prevent hoarding, Indian Railways has implemented a restriction on authorized ticketing agents. Agents are prohibited from booking Tatkal tickets during the first 30 minutes of the booking window:

  • For AC Classes: No agent bookings between 10:00 AM and 10:30 AM.
  • For Non-AC Classes: No agent bookings between 11:00 AM and 11:30 AM.

Passenger Limits per PNR

Travelers should also keep in mind the capacity limits under this scheme. For any single Tatkal booking, a maximum of four passengers can be registered under a single PNR.
