The Railway Ministry has introduced new measures to make the process more transparent. From July 1, 2026, Aadhaar-based OTP authentication will be mandatory for booking Tatkal tickets via the IRCTC website and app. This move aims to protect passengers from unfair practices.

To stop bulk bookings, authorized agents are now restricted from booking Tatkal tickets during the first 30 minutes of the window. For AC classes, this restriction is from 10:00 AM to 10:30 AM, and for Non-AC classes, it is from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM.

How to book these tickets?

Tatkal tickets can be booked through IRCTC online or at station counters. AC class booking starts at 10:00 AM and Non-AC starts at 11:00 AM one day before the journey.

Current booking is available at the station’s current counter or online via the CURR AVBL option on the IRCTC app. This service remains available until 15 minutes before the train departs, provided seats are vacant after the final chart is prepared.
