New Udaipur-Kota MEMU Train Service Gets Official Approval

The Railway Board has officially sanctioned a new Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU) train service to operate between Udaipur City and Kota Junction. This decision is set to significantly enhance rail connectivity between the Mewar and Hadoti regions of Rajasthan.
Boosting Connectivity for Festivals and Commuters
The announcement, confirmed by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw between October 19 and October 20, 2026, comes at a strategic time. The new service aims to provide better travel options ahead of the upcoming Diwali and Chhath festivals.
The introduction of this service, operating under train numbers 61628 and 61627, follows persistent advocacy from Chittorgarh MP C.P. Joshi and Udaipur MP Dr. Manna Lal Rawat, who pushed for improved regional transport links.
Route Details and Passenger Benefits
The MEMU train route is designed to serve multiple locations, including stops at Chanderiya and Chittorgarh. To ensure the service is accessible to a wide range of travelers, the plan includes stops at both major junctions and smaller stations along the route.
This inclusive stop pattern is specifically intended to support various passenger groups, such as:
- Students traveling for academic purposes.
- Traders moving between regional hubs.
- Daily commuters.
- Passengers traveling from rural areas.
Operational Status and Timetable
While the Ministry of Railways has granted formal approval, the project is currently undergoing a procedural review at the railway headquarters. This stage is necessary to finalize the complete operational details and the official timetable.
An official start date for the Udaipur-Kota MEMU service has not yet been announced by the authorities.
