Ujjain Railway Station Introduces One Way Movement System to Manage Shravan Crowd
Ujjain Railway Station has officially launched a new one-way passenger movement system starting July 25, 2026, to streamline the massive influx of pilgrims during the Shravan-Bhadau season. This strategic initiative serves as a pilot for a larger crowd control plan covering the Ujjain, Indore, and Kota sections, aimed at managing up to 100,000 daily passengers in preparation for the upcoming Singhastha Mela.
Key updates for passengers at Ujjain Junction include:
- All passengers must enter strictly through Platform No. 1.
- Exits are now restricted to Platform No. 8 only.
- Entry from the goods shed side is now permanently closed.
- Drones are being deployed for real-time crowd monitoring.
- A new waterproof holding area for 1,200 passengers is being built.
- Six additional special trains have been added to the Bhopal route.
Enhanced Security and Infrastructure
To ensure safety during this period, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) has requested 50 additional personnel to bolster station security, alongside an expansion of the existing CCTV camera network. Mukesh Kumar, PRO of the Ratlam Rail Division, confirmed that Ujjain, Indore, and Sehore stations were selected for these specific holding area measures following a detailed survey conducted by RITES.
These efforts are part of a wider regional infrastructure project supported by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav. The railway is proactively addressing future capacity needs, including the ongoing construction of a new Pawasa station designed to reduce congestion for the Singhastha 2028 event.
A Legacy of Recent Upgrades
This crowd management system builds upon a series of significant technological advancements at the station. Notably, on October 15, 2025, the world’s largest electronic interlocking system was commissioned at Ujjain Junction to improve operational precision. Furthermore, as part of a broader safety drive launched on July 13, 2026, Indian Railways is currently installing crash barriers along 500 kilometers of tracks in the region. These combined measures reflect the administration’s commitment to ensuring that even during peak religious festivals, passenger experience remains safe, orderly, and efficient.
