The Union Ministry of Railways is set to revolutionize connectivity in the Udaipur region with the construction of the new Umarda-Debari rail line. This major infrastructure project, spanning 24.78 kilometers, has officially moved forward following the finalization of the land acquisition process.

Land Acquisition and Project Scope

Sanctioned with a total budget of ₹492 crore by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, the project is progressing rapidly. Following a gazette notification issued on June 1, 2026, the central government reviewed and cleared six objections regarding land acquisition, paving the way for immediate development.

The acquisition covers 9.7770 hectares of land, which includes parcels from private owners, the government, and the Udaipur Urban Development Authority. This land spans 43 different villages, including:

  • Bedwas
  • Madri Purohitan
  • Ayad
  • Paneriyon ki Madri
  • Savina
  • Eklingpura
  • Khera Kanpur

Advanced Engineering and Station Upgrades

To navigate the local terrain, the infrastructure plan includes the construction of a new 550-meter tunnel near Ghatavali Mata. Additionally, the project aims to optimize existing rail facilities through a strategic proposal to relocate the pitline and yard from Udaipur City Station to Umarda.

The primary goal of this double-line project is to eliminate the need for train crossings, which are a major cause of operational delays. By increasing line capacity, the new track will facilitate significantly higher speeds for both passenger and freight services.

Economic and Industrial Impact

Regional stakeholders anticipate that this expansion will act as a massive economic catalyst. The enhanced connectivity is expected to provide vital support to several key sectors:

  • Mineral Transportation: Streamlining the movement of essential minerals.
  • Industrial Growth: Supporting the thriving textile and cement industries located in Bhilwara and Chittorgarh.
  • Tourism and Commerce: Accommodating the growing demand for tourism, educational, and commercial traffic within the Udaipur region.

Construction of the new line is slated for completion within three years of the final land acquisition process.
