Una: 24-Year Neglect of Dilwan Railway Access Road
Dilwan residents face daily hazards as the railway access road in Una remains in ruins after 24 years of neglect and broken promises.

The residents of Dilwan are facing extreme hardship as the Una railway access road remains in a state of total decay. For approximately 24 years, this vital thoroughfare, which connects the Churudu railway bridge on the Una-Amb National Highway to the Diyada main highway, has been left without any maintenance, leaving the local community to navigate a landscape of destruction.
A Dangerous Path for Villagers and Students
The road is currently riddled with deep, treacherous potholes that pose a significant hazard to everyone who uses it. The dilapidated state of the infrastructure impacts between 1,000 and 1,200 people on a daily basis, turning a simple commute into a dangerous ordeal.
The degraded conditions present constant risks to:
- Motorists navigating the uneven and broken surface.
- Local villagers attempting to access their homes and essential services.
- School children who must traverse the hazardous path to reach their education.
Broken Promises and Years of Silence
Despite the clear and growing danger, official intervention has been virtually non-existent. Balwinder Singh Bunty, the Deputy Pradhan of the Dilwan Gram Panchayat, revealed that a formal petition was submitted to the Railway Department five years ago requesting urgent repairs.
"The department provided assurances at the time that the work would be completed shortly, but no action has been taken in the half-decade since," stated Bunty.
This lack of accountability has caused widespread frustration. Local resident Rahul Kumar echoed these sentiments, highlighting the continuous hardships the community endures because of the road's crumbling condition.
No Immediate Relief in Sight
Despite repeated complaints and years of documented neglect, there has been no official announcement regarding remedial action from the railway authorities. As of October 25, 2026, the residents of Dilwan remain stuck in a cycle of infrastructure neglect, waiting for the basic right of a safe and functional road.
