Unnao Junction Upgrade: DRM Sets March 2027 Deadline

The transformation of Unnao Junction is moving into high gear. During a comprehensive inspection on October 17, 2026, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of the Lucknow Division, Sunil Kumar Verma, issued a strict directive to ensure the Unnao Junction redevelopment is completed by March 2027.
The modernization project is being carried out under the central government's Amrit Bharat Station Scheme with a sanctioned budget of ₹29.78 crore. The goal is to overhaul the existing infrastructure to provide a world-class experience for commuters.
Modern Infrastructure and Passenger Amenities
The redevelopment involves a complete facelift of the station. Currently, the construction of the new two-story station building is in an advanced stage, with the ground floor casting work already finished. Efforts are now focused on the upper floor.
Once completed, the station will boast a variety of high-end facilities designed for comfort and convenience, including:
- A newly designed circulating area and a modern facade with a portico.
- A 12-meter-wide foot-overbridge to ensure smooth passenger movement.
- A dedicated food plaza and cafeteria.
- An executive lounge and a baby feeding room.
- Modern furniture, aesthetic signage, and free Wi-Fi.
- Enhanced accessibility through lifts, ramps, and escalators.
- Improved security via advanced CCTV surveillance systems.
Addressing Delays and Ensuring Quality
The push for an accelerated timeline follows previous concerns raised by local Member of Parliament Sakshi Maharaj regarding project delays. DRM Verma emphasized that while speed is essential, there can be no compromise on quality. He instructed construction agencies and officials to maintain strict adherence to quality standards and to ensure seamless coordination between departments to resolve any technical hurdles immediately.
Beyond Unnao, the DRM's inspection tour extended across the Lucknow-Unnao-Unchahar-Raebareli section. He visited stations including Harauni, Achalganj, and Takiya to review cleanliness, ticket counter operations, and ongoing construction work. During the visit, officials also addressed queries regarding older railway track projects and administrative matters to ensure all divisional operations remain on track.
