Unnao Station Redevelopment: DRM Mandates March 2027 Completion

In a decisive move to accelerate station modernization, the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Lucknow Division, Sunil Kumar Verma, has set a strict deadline for the redevelopment of Unnao Railway Station. During a formal site inspection conducted on Saturday, October 17, 2026, the DRM ordered that all ongoing construction under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme must be completed no later than March 2027.

Major Progress in Station Overhaul

The redevelopment project, which officially commenced in February 2024, is aimed at transforming Unnao into a modern transit hub with enhanced passenger amenities. The inspection provided a clear picture of the structural progress currently underway at the site.

According to railway officials, the project has reached several key milestones:

  • Structural Casting: The casting for the ground floor of the new two-story station building has been successfully completed.
  • Upper Floor Construction: Work is currently in progress on the upper floor, marking a significant step toward the building's completion.

Prioritizing Passenger Comfort and Safety

During his visit, DRM Verma did not just focus on the big picture; he addressed specific, immediate needs required to maintain service quality during this transition period. He issued several direct mandates to the construction agency and railway officials to ensure the station remains functional and comfortable for commuters.

Key directives included:

  1. Immediate Sanitation: The installation of e-toilets near the temporary ticket office must be carried out immediately.
  2. Drainage Infrastructure: A robust drainage system must be prioritized to prevent waterlogging issues within the station premises, ensuring smooth operations even during heavy rains.
  3. Technical Problem-Solving: Officials were instructed to proactively identify and resolve any technical obstacles that could potentially stall the construction pace.

Addressing Previous Delays

The intensified oversight and the new, firm deadline come in the wake of previous concerns regarding the project's timeline. Earlier, Member of Parliament Sakshi Maharaj had expressed dissatisfaction regarding the pace of the redevelopment. This political and public pressure has already contributed to a significant increase in the construction tempo, as the Northern Railway works to meet the March 2027 target.
