Uttar Pradesh Minister Seeks New Train Stoppages and Underpasses for Pukhrayan
Uttar Pradesh Cabinet Minister Rakesh Sachan met with Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in New Delhi on Thursday, September 3, 2026, to push for vital rail infrastructure and connectivity enhancements in the Pukhrayan region. Representing the Bhognipur assembly constituency, the minister pressed for essential train stoppages and the construction of new underpasses to ease commuter woes and chronic traffic congestion.
During the high-level meeting, the minister formally requested new halts for five major long-distance express trains at the Pukhrayan railway station to serve local passengers traveling toward Mumbai and southern destinations. Additionally, he highlighted the urgent need for two new railway underpasses at busy level crossings to streamline road traffic. Key highlights from the discussions include:
- Proposed stops for five major express trains including Banaras-Hadapsar Pune, Sultanpur-Mumbai, Gorakhpur-Yesvantpur, Gorakhpur-Mumbai, and Chhapra-Mumbai Express.
- Pukhrayan generates approximately 40 million rupees in annual revenue for the national transporter, making it the busiest station in the district.
- Amrit Bharat Station Scheme has recently modernized the Pukhrayan railway station.
- Two railway underpasses proposed at Mandi Samiti crossing gate number 205 and gate number 206 on the Patel Chowk-Dalel Nagar-Atwa road to resolve chronic traffic jams.
Boosting Connectivity for Local Travelers
Minister Rakesh Sachan strongly advocated for the formal introduction of scheduled stops for the Banaras-Hadapsar Pune Express (22589/22590), Sultanpur-Mumbai Express (12143/12144), Gorakhpur-Yesvantpur Express (15023/15024), Gorakhpur-Mumbai Express (12597/12598), and the Chhapra-Mumbai Express (22583/22584). He emphasized that these additions would tremendously help passengers from the region heading towards financial hubs and southern states, especially given the station's robust financial contribution and recent upgrade under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.
Alleviating Level Crossing Congestion
To tackle severe road traffic bottlenecks, the state minister urged the railway ministry to fast-track the construction of two crucial railway underpasses. These structures are planned for the Mandi Samiti crossing gate number 205 and gate number 206 situated along the Patel Chowk-Dalel Nagar-Atwa road. Responding to these developmental demands, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw assured that necessary actions would be promptly initiated to address the grievances. Separately, the railway minister also chaired a comprehensive review at Rail Bhawan, directing officials to resolve technical and maintenance shortcomings across safety protocols on a mission mode basis.
