UP Station Makeover: 36 Stations to Get High-Level Platforms!
Indian Railways is set to transform the travel experience across Uttar Pradesh through a massive infrastructure modernization project. The initiative focuses on upgrading 36 railway stations with high-level platforms, a move designed to significantly enhance passenger safety and convenience.
Prioritizing Accessibility for All
A core objective of this upgrade is to make railway travel more inclusive. The construction of high-level platforms is specifically intended to assist elderly passengers and those with disabilities, ensuring that the process of boarding and deboarding trains is much smoother and safer for everyone.
Project Scale and Current Progress
According to Amit Kumar Singh, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Prayagraj Division, the project is moving forward with significant momentum. The scope of the work includes:
- Tender Status: Tenders have already been issued for 51 platforms across the 36 identified stations.
- Ongoing Construction: Work has already commenced on 26 platforms located at 23 of these stations.
- Broad Approvals: Authorities have granted wider approval for work on 55 platforms across 39 stations.
Future Targets for 2026-27
The momentum is expected to continue into the next financial year. For the 2026-27 period, officials have set a specific target to upgrade 25 platforms at 19 stations to the high-level standard.
Which Stations are Getting the Upgrade?
The modernization drive covers several key locations, particularly within the Prayagraj Division. Some of the notable stations included in this project are:
- Pahada
- Meja Road
- Gaipura
- Sujatpur
- Bamrauli
- Various stations in the Kanpur region
- Mainpuri
- Jaswantnagar
- Hathras Junction
- Jalesar Road
This massive undertaking is being executed under the coordinated supervision of Indian Railways, the North Central Railway (NCR), and the Prayagraj Division. The project is strictly following its schedule, with completion deadlines for several platforms set for December 2026 and January 2027.
