Uttar Pradesh sees ongoing railway projects worth over one lakh crore rupees

Indian Railways is transforming passenger travel across the country with massive investments in infrastructure and modern train services. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that railway infrastructure projects valued at ₹1.29 lakh crore are currently underway across Uttar Pradesh. During his address on August 31, 2026, the Minister shared important updates regarding the state's connectivity and future travel options. Uttar Pradesh is currently serviced by 32 Vande Bharat trains and 46 Amrit Bharat services. The next phase of modernization will introduce high-speed bullet trains. The upcoming Delhi-Varanasi High-Speed Rail corridor spans approximately 865 kilometres and will traverse over 22 districts. The finalized alignment includes stations in key cities such as Noida, Mathura, Agra, Etawah, Kannauj, Lucknow, Raebareli, Prayagraj, and Varanasi, with an estimated project cost between ₹1.21 lakh crore and ₹1.71 lakh crore along with a 135-km link connecting Lucknow and Ayodhya.

Capacity Expansion and Four-Laning of High-Density Routes

Indian Railways is undertaking massive capacity expansion initiatives to reduce congestion and improve punctuality. The national transporter is moving towards the four-laning of 11,000 kilometres of high-density routes, including the crucial Delhi-Howrah corridor which passes directly through Uttar Pradesh. These engineering marvels are designed to segregate passenger and freight traffic for smoother operations.

New Train Services and Timetable Updates

Passenger convenience remains a top priority with the introduction of new routes and optimized schedules. Recent operational updates feature the successful commencement of the Gorakhpur-Delhi Amrit Bharat Express. Additionally, authorities have implemented revised schedules for the Varanasi-Ranchi and Varanasi-Deoghar Vande Bharat services. These continuous improvements reflect the Ministry of Railways' ongoing commitment to lower overall transport costs, enhance regional mobility, and deliver a world-class travel experience for millions of daily commuters across Uttar Pradesh.
