Vadodara Traffic Relief: ₹166.5 Crore Four-Lane ROB Approved!
Commuters in Vadodara are set for a massive upgrade in connectivity. The Ministry of Railways has officially sanctioned the construction of a brand-new four-lane Road Over Bridge (ROB) at Alkapuri, a move designed to revolutionize movement around the Vadodara Railway Station.
A Massive ₹166.5 Crore Joint Venture
Announced on September 24, 2026, this high-impact infrastructure project carries a total price tag of more than ₹166.5 crore. To ensure the project's successful execution, the cost will be shared equally between two major stakeholders:
- Indian Railways: Contributing approximately ₹83.28 crore.
- Gujarat State Government: Contributing approximately ₹83.28 crore.
The approval comes after dedicated representations by Vadodara Lok Sabha MP Hemang Joshi and his predecessor, following an initial vision shared by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.
Solving the Alkapuri Bottleneck
The new four-lane ROB is destined to replace the existing Alkapuri Road Under Bridge (RUB), which has long been a headache for local motorists. The current underpass is plagued by several critical issues that the new bridge aims to eliminate:
- Height Restrictions: A mere 3-meter vertical clearance prevents large vehicles from passing through easily.
- Monsoon Chaos: The area frequently suffers from severe waterlogging during the rainy season.
- Extreme Traffic Volume: Ministry data reveals that the corridor handles a staggering peak-hour load exceeding 1,600 Passenger Car Units per hour.
- Safety Hazards: The existing setup is characterized by numerous traffic conflict points and a lack of proper facilities for pedestrians.
Seamless Access to High-Speed Transit
By creating a grade-separated crossing, the new ROB will resolve long-standing congestion issues without disrupting essential railway operations. This strategic piece of infrastructure will provide much smoother transit to vital hubs, including:
- The nearby GSRTC Bus Station.
- The upcoming high-speed rail terminal.
This development ensures that as Vadodara moves toward a future of high-speed rail, its local road network is ready to handle the increased momentum.
