Vande Bharat Hits 180 kmph! New 16-Coach Trainset Trials Success
Indian Railways has reached a massive milestone in its journey toward high-speed rail. A new 16-coach Vande Bharat Chair Car trainset has successfully completed a high-speed trial, clocking a staggering top speed of 180 kmph. This Vande Bharat 180 kmph trial marks a significant leap in the modernization and speed capabilities of the national rail network.
Rigorous Testing Across Key Sections
The high-speed performance was conducted under the strict supervision of the Chief Commissioner of Railway Safety (CCRS). Recent trials were carried out on the Mathura-Nagda section on October 8, 2026. This follows a significant high-speed test previously conducted within the Kota division on September 24, 2026. These evaluations were essential to verify the safety parameters and operational efficiency of the trainset at extreme velocities.
Advanced Engineering from RCF Kapurthala
This specialized 16-coach unit was manufactured at the Rail Coach Factory (RCF) in Kapurthala. The factory has demonstrated exceptional productivity, recently marking a milestone by producing a record 2,383 coaches during the 2025-26 financial year. To facilitate these high speeds, this specific trainset has been equipped with an advanced propulsion system specifically tailored for high-speed transit.
Future Expansion and New Corridors
Following the success of these trials, Indian Railways is looking toward the next phase of implementation. The future roadmap for this technology includes:
