Vande Bharat Sleeper: New Booking & Fare Rules Announced
Indian Railways announces booking, fare, and cancellation rules for Vande Bharat Sleeper trains. No Tatkal or RAC allowed.

Indian Railways has officially unveiled the operational and booking guidelines for the highly anticipated Vande Bharat Sleeper trains. As these premium trains prepare to redefine long-distance travel, passengers need to be aware of significant changes regarding ticket availability, pricing, and cancellation policies.
No Tatkal or Dynamic Pricing
In a major departure from standard train operations, the new Vande Bharat Sleeper services will not offer Tatkal or Premium Tatkal booking options. This means travelers cannot rely on last-minute emergency bookings for these premium routes.
To ensure price stability, the railways have also decided to scrap the flexi-fare or dynamic pricing mechanism. Unlike many other premium trains where prices surge during high demand, the ticket costs for Vande Bharat Sleeper trains will remain fixed, providing commuters with predictable travel expenses.
Confirmed Tickets Only: No RAC or Waitlist
Passengers planning to travel on these high-speed sleeper services must secure a confirmed berth in advance. The railway has confirmed that there will be no provision for Reservation Against Cancellation (RAC) or waitlisted travel. If a passenger does not have a confirmed ticket, they will not be permitted to board the train.
Key technical details of the train configuration include:
- Total Coaches: 16 coaches
- Total Capacity: 823 berths
- Travel Classes: First AC (1A), Second AC (2A), and Third AC (3A)
- Minimum Distance: A minimum chargeable distance of 400 kilometers applies to all passengers.
While the Tatkal quota is excluded, the administration will continue to honor limited quotas for specific groups, including senior citizens, ladies, Persons with Disabilities (PwD), and official duty passes for railway personnel.
Strict New Cancellation Policy
The Indian Railways has also implemented a revised and stringent cancellation policy for these sleeper services. Passengers should plan their journeys carefully to avoid significant financial losses:
- Cancellations more than 72 hours before departure: A 25% deduction of the total fare will be applied.
- Cancellations between 72 hours and 8 hours before departure: A 50% deduction of the fare will be charged.
- Cancellations less than 8 hours before departure: No refunds will be provided under any circumstances.
