The Integral Coach Factory in Chennai is gearing up to introduce a new freight train named Gati Shakti. This train is expected to be ready by the end of November and is designed based on the popular Vande Bharat passenger train.
The Gati Shakti train will consist of 16 cars and can travel at a speed of 130 km per hour. It will be capable of carrying up to 397 tonnes of goods, making it an efficient option for freight transport.
Once the train is ready, there will be trial runs from Khajuraho to Mahoba in Uttar Pradesh, followed by another trial in Kota, Rajasthan. This train aims to enhance the efficiency of transporting high-value and time-sensitive goods across regions.
Some of the key features of the Gati Shakti train include wide automatic sliding doors, an onboard kitchen, fire detection systems, and CCTV for security. These improvements will make loading goods much easier compared to current freight trains.
The Railway Ministry plans to introduce the first services of this superfast freight train in the Delhi and Mumbai regions. This initiative is part of a broader effort to modernize freight transport in India.
