The first Vande Bharat sleeper train reached New Delhi Railway Station on Saturday. This train will soon start operations between Guwahati and Kolkata, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag it off.
Rail Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw inspected the train and checked its facilities. He mentioned that eight more sleeper trains will be launched in the next six months, bringing the total to twelve by the end of the year.
This train is expected to start running in 15 to 20 days. It will be the first sleeper train connecting two states and is a significant step towards improving train travel in India.
The train has 16 coaches with a total capacity of 823 passengers. It includes 11 Third AC coaches, four Second AC coaches, and one First AC coach, allowing different travel experiences for passengers.
The train can run at 180 km/h and is equipped with safety features like an automatic train protection system and AI-based cameras. The fares will be around ₹2300 for Third AC, ₹3000 for Second AC, and ₹3600 for First AC, which is competitive compared to flight prices for the same route.
