India’s first private train, the Tejas Express, started running in 2019. This train operates between New Delhi and Lucknow, offering a new travel option for passengers.

The Tejas Express is run by the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC). It has been popular since its launch, making a good profit within the first month of service.


The ticket prices for the Tejas Express are higher than other trains like the Rajdhani, Shatabdi, and Vande Bharat on the same route. A ticket costs Rs 1,679 for AC Chair Car and Rs 2,457 for Executive Chair Car.

In comparison, the Shatabdi Express charges Rs 1,255 for AC Chair Car and Rs 1,955 for Executive Chair Car. The Rajdhani Express has different fare options depending on the class of travel.


The Tejas Express is designed for speed and comfort, with modern facilities. It runs at a maximum speed of 160 km/h, even though it can go up to 200 km/h under ideal conditions.
