What’s inside:

This article discusses the plans to increase train speed on the Malda-Kiul railway section and the ongoing infrastructure improvements.

The railway authorities are working to increase the speed limit on the Malda to Kiul railway line from 110 km/h to 130 km/h. This change is expected to happen after the Chhath festival. The administration has started replacing old tracks and sleepers, beginning at Jamalpur station.

Construction of subways is also set to begin soon, especially after the Chhath festival. The aim is to enhance safety and speed. If everything goes as planned, the new speed limit could be implemented before March 2026.

Currently, around 128 freight and passenger trains operate between Jamalpur and Kiul. However, due to the presence of caution signals and the lack of subways, trains can only travel at a maximum of 110 km/h. This affects the schedule and travel times for passengers.

On the route, there are 13 stops, including Moraripur, Makhanpur, and Maheshari. Some halts, like Fulka and Amari Adalpur, have been closed due to accidents. The railway is also ensuring that train drivers sound their horns at caution spots to keep passengers alert.

With the ongoing upgrades, including the construction of new tunnels and third and fourth tracks, the railway expects to improve travel times significantly. The authorities are focused on completing these projects efficiently to enhance train operations.

Summary:

  • The speed limit on the Malda-Kiul railway line is set to increase to 130 km/h.

  • Track and sleeper replacement work has already started.

  • Construction of subways will begin after the Chhath festival.

  • Currently, trains operate at a speed of 110 km/h due to safety measures.

  • Railway upgrades are expected to improve travel times by March 2026.
