The North Eastern Railway (NER) has recently been allocated three new Amrit Bharat trains, significantly enhancing passenger travel options. The trains include the Gorakhpur-Bandra, Gomtinagar-Puri (Maltipatpur), and Chhapra-Amritsar Amrit Bharat Express. Additionally, there are plans for other routes that will run through Gorakhpur, such as Darbhanga-Delhi, Pune-Chhapra, Darbhanga-Hisar, and Darbhanga-New Delhi. This expansion comes as part of a larger initiative by the Railway Board, which approved a total of 26 new Amrit Bharat trains, with eight of them set to operate from and through Gorakhpur in the near future.
Train Specifications and Features
The Amrit Bharat Express trains will feature a total of 22 coaches, consisting of 12 second-class sleeper coaches, 8 general class coaches for unreserved passengers, and 2 guard coaches. These trains are designed to be more accessible, with provisions for disabled passengers. The introduction of pull-push technology enhances the trains’ efficiency, as each train will be equipped with a WAP-5 locomotive at both ends, providing a powerful 6,000 hp. The trains boast Vande Bharat-style high-speed locomotives and include modern amenities such as foldable snack tables, aerosol-based fire extinguishing systems, and zero discharge toilets similar to those found in Vande Bharat Express trains.
Approved Routes and Operations
The approved routes for the newly introduced Amrit Bharat trains include the Gorakhpur-Bandra, Gomtinagar-Puri (Maltipatpur) via Gorakhpur, and Chhapra-Amritsar via Gorakhpur. Additionally, new services will operate from Bhagat Ki Kothi to Gorakhpur under the NW Railway. The trains passing through Gorakhpur will facilitate travel on the Darbhanga-Delhi, Pune-Chhapra, Darbhanga-Hisar, and Darbhanga-New Delhi routes. The Railway Board is currently finalizing the timetable and train numbers to expedite the launch of these new services.
