This article talks about the railway ministry’s plan to prevent accidents caused by cattle on train tracks after launching faster trains like Vande Bharat.
The railway ministry is working on a project to stop accidents caused by cattle on the tracks, especially after launching faster trains like Vande Bharat. This initiative is focused on the train routes in the Jodhpur division.
Recently, the railway board issued tenders to install crash barriers along a 126 km stretch between Jodhpur and Phulera, costing around ₹110 crores. Work on installing metal beam crash barriers has already begun in many sections.
Currently, the Vande Bharat train running from Jodhpur to Delhi has a minimum speed of 105 to 108 km/h, and it will go up to 130 km/h after the upgrades. The same speed upgrade is expected for the Jodhpur-Sabarmati route as well.
The railway department claims that this project will be completed within six months. If everything goes as planned, between March and June 2026, trains from Jodhpur to Jaipur and Ahmedabad will run at 130 km/h.
In June, tenders worth ₹70.66 crores were issued for crash barriers between Jodhpur and Phulera. Once these barriers are in place, the speed of trains on this route is expected to increase from 110 km/h to 130 km/h.
