Passengers faced a tough time returning home as many trains were delayed during the New Year celebrations in Kanpur. Instead of celebrating with their families, they ended up spending the night in trains.
Several trains including Tejas, Vande Bharat, and Shatabdi were late. For example, Tejas Express from Delhi reached Kanpur Central after a delay of nine hours, arriving at 5:55 AM instead of 8:35 PM the previous night.
Similarly, the Vande Bharat train from Varanasi to Delhi arrived at 1:18 AM instead of 6:30 PM, and the Sharamshakti Express was also delayed for several hours. Many passengers expressed their frustration online regarding these delays.
Other significant delays included Rajendra Nagar’s Capital train which was almost 10 hours late, arriving around 7:18 AM instead of 9:52 PM. The delays affected over 59 trains on the New Year.
In response to the upcoming Makar Mela, the railway has announced that 22 additional trains will stop at Prayagraj station from January 1 to February 20, 2024. Security measures at Central Station have also been tightened for the expected crowd.
