Divyakant Chandrakar has recently taken over as the Divisional Railway Manager for the Thiruvananthapuram Division. He mentioned that his top priority is to increase the number of coaches for MEMU trains in the area.
With the Kollam MEMU shed extension set to finish in December, trains with 16 coaches will soon be operational. This is expected to enhance railway services significantly in the region, which is great news for commuters.
For passengers, this means more seating options and better service on the Thiruvananthapuram-Mangaluru Vande Bharat train, which recently added four extra coaches. If approved, the Vande Bharat could even increase to 24 coaches.
Chandrakar is also looking into platform lengths at various stations to accommodate longer trains. He is aware of the delays with the Nemom terminal project and is pushing for its completion along with others, like the Nagercoil remodelling.
In addition, he is considering requests for new train services on popular routes, such as Bengaluru and Chennai. The railway division is actively working to address passenger needs and improve services in the coming months.
