What’s inside:

This article talks about a Vande Bharat train’s unexpected long journey due to a technical mistake, resulting in delays and confusion.

The Indian Railways faced an embarrassing situation when a Vande Bharat train from Sabarmati to Gurgaon took much longer than planned. Instead of the usual 15-hour ride, the train took 28 hours to cover nearly 1,400 kilometres.

This unexpected delay happened because the train was stranded just an hour into its journey near Mehsana. The issue was a basic technical mismatch, as the train lacked the necessary equipment to operate safely on a route with higher overhead wires.

Passengers expecting a fast and comfortable trip were left frustrated. The train had to take a long detour through Ahmedabad, Udaipur, and other places, making the journey much longer than intended.

The overhead wires on some routes are higher to allow for double-stack freight trains. Regular trains like this Vande Bharat, however, need special pantographs to collect power from these high wires, which it did not have.

Railway officials acknowledged that this oversight should have been caught before the train was deployed. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of proper planning in operations.

Summary:

  • A Vande Bharat train took 28 hours instead of 15 hours to reach Gurgaon.

  • The train was stuck due to a lack of necessary equipment for high overhead wires.

  • Passengers experienced significant delays and frustration during the journey.

  • The train had to take a long detour through multiple cities.

  • Officials admitted the mistake and highlighted the need for better planning.
