Varanasi Rajghat Bridge: Railways Seek PWD Traffic Block to Restart Critical Repairs

The maintenance of the vital Rajghat Bridge, also known as the Malviya Bridge in Varanasi, has reached a standstill. To break the current impasse, the Railway Department has formally requested the Public Works Department (PWD) to submit a proposal for a traffic block, a move essential to resuming much-needed repair works on the structure.
The Scope of the Maintenance Project
The ongoing project is a collaborative effort between the Railway Department and the PWD, aimed at upgrading the bridge's critical infrastructure. The work involves:
- The replacement of 85 expansion joints.
- The installation of new drainage spouts across the bridge.
The contract for these essential repairs has been awarded to the Meerut-based Seeko Company.
Why the Repairs Have Stalled
Repair activities have been suspended since August 28, 2026,
