Western Railway Launches 325 New ATVMs at Churchgate, Rail One App Mandatory for Passes
Western Railway has officially started the rollout of 325 new Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs) to make travel easier for Mumbai commuters. The initiative began on February 3, 2026, with an inauguration at Churchgate Station. This move aims to reduce long queues during peak hours and encourage passengers to switch to digital ticketing options.

Where will you find these new machines?
The railway authorities are placing these machines strategically to help passengers save time. You will find them on station platforms, concourse areas, and Foot Overbridges (FOBs). This placement ensures that people can buy tickets quickly without getting stuck in crowds, especially during rush hours. Out of the existing 501 machines, the railways are replacing about 110 old or non-functional units with these modern versions.
New App Rules and Payment Benefits
There is a major shift happening with mobile ticketing as well. The old UTS app is being phased out and replaced by the new “Rail One” app. Since January 2026, passengers must use this new app to book or renew monthly, quarterly, and half-yearly passes. The railway is also offering a 3% discount on fares if you pay using the R-Wallet through the ATVMs or the app.
