Western Railway prepares tenders to extend rail line from Tanda Road to Dhar

Western Railway is expanding the rail network in Gujarat as officials finalized tender documents for the next phase of development extending the rail line toward Dhar. This major infrastructure update comes right after the successful arrival of train services at Tanda Road station.

The newly energized Dekakund-Tanda Road section successfully cleared a high-speed engine trial at 120 kmph and received CRS clearance for passenger operations at 90 kmph.

Progress on the Chhota Udepur-Dhar Project

Following the successful completion of the Dekakund-Tanda Road section, overhead electrification was expertly carried out by Bikaner-based Jagdamba Engineers and Builders. The section was officially energized with 25,000-volt traction on July 18, 2026. Shortly after, an engine speed trial touching 120 kilometers per hour was conducted on August 10, 2026, under the watchful supervision of Western Railway Principal Chief Electrical Engineer Rajnish Kumar Goyal. With subsequent Commissioner of Railway Safety inspection complete, the route is now fully cleared for passenger train operations at a maximum speed of 90 kilometers per hour.

This upcoming inauguration officially places the Dhar district on the country railway map. The Tanda Road station is fully operational, boasting robust passenger infrastructure including platforms, dedicated parking facilities, and a functional booking office. Earlier in March 2026, the Vadodara division had already initiated a tender process for consulting services covering the structural design of viaducts and bridges for the broader Chhota Udepur-Dhar broad gauge project.

As train operations commence, railway authorities have issued strict public safety notices. Road users near railway crossings must exercise caution and avoid operating tall vehicles due to the high-voltage 25,000-volt lines currently active along the newly electrified tracks.
