Western Railway Hits 120 Kmph on Tihi-Dhar Section!
Western Railway successfully completes a 120 kmph speed trial on the Tihi-Dhar section, a crucial part of the Indore-Dahod rail project.

Western Railway has reached a major milestone in its mission to enhance regional connectivity. On November 7, 2026, a high-speed trial was successfully conducted on the 43-kilometer Tihi-Dhar rail section, where an engine reached a remarkable speed of 120 kmph. This successful run marks a significant step forward for the much-anticipated Indore-Dahod project.
High-Speed Milestone Achieved
The trial run was conducted under the supervision of E. Srinivas, the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS). The primary objective was to assess the track's capacity and evaluate the overall operational readiness of this critical segment. As a vital component of the broader Indore-Dahod rail link, the Tihi-Dhar section is expected to play a crucial role in future high-speed transit across the region.
During the inspection, officials noted that while the speed trials were successful, certain technical refinements are still required. These minor deficiencies include:
- Improvements needed for drainage systems at various bridge sites.
- The replacement of bridge bearings at specific locations along the track.
Advanced Engineering and Infrastructure
The Tihi-Dhar section is a showcase of modern railway engineering. One of the standout features is a 3-kilometer tunnel connected to Pithampur, which utilizes cutting-edge ballast-less track technology. This technology is designed to provide greater stability and lower maintenance requirements compared to traditional tracks.
Safety and communication have also been prioritized through high-tech installations, including:
- Specialized ventilation systems within the tunnel infrastructure.
- Advanced optical fiber-based communication systems utilizing DK cables.
What's Next for Passenger Services?
While the infrastructure is largely complete and the speed trials have proven successful, passengers will have to wait a little longer before they can board trains on this route. Currently, passenger operations remain suspended.
Regular services will only be inaugurated once the identified technical shortcomings are fully rectified. Furthermore, a formal safety report must be submitted and final approval must be granted by the competent authorities. As of now, no official date has been announced for the commencement of passenger train services on this section.
