Winter Fog Alert: Major Train Cancellations for Delhi and Assam

Indian Railways has announced widespread train cancellations and frequency reductions to manage safety during the upcoming winter fog season. To ensure safe operations during periods of low visibility, several services operating through Bhagalpur, Naugachia, and other key routes will face significant disruptions from December 2026 through March 2027.

The Ambala Division, under the Northern Railway zone, has confirmed that 46 trains will be affected by these adjustments. The changes primarily impact travel to major destinations including Delhi, Assam, and Uttar Pradesh.

Major Disruptions on North East and Delhi Routes

Travelers heading toward the North East or Delhi should plan their journeys carefully, as several high-profile expresses will see schedule changes:

  • Kamakhya-Anand Vihar North East Express (12505): This service will be canceled on Wednesdays and Sundays during December, January, and February.
  • Anand Vihar-Kamakhya North East Express (12506): Cancellations will occur on Tuesdays and Fridays from December 4, 2026, through March 2, 2027.
  • Alipurduar-Delhi Sikkim Mahananda Express (15483): This train will be canceled on Wednesdays and Sundays.
  • Delhi-Alipurduar Sikkim Mahananda Express (15484): This service faces cancellations on Mondays and Fridays through February 2027.
  • New Farakka Express (14003/14004): The Malda to New Delhi service (14003) is suspended from December 5, 2026, to March 2, 2027, while the reverse journey (14004) will be affected from December 3, 2026, to February 28, 2027.

Garib Rath and Weekly Service Adjustments

In addition to the long-distance express trains, several other weekly and premium services will face reduced frequency:

  • Bhagalpur-Anand Vihar Garib Rath Express (22406): This service will see 13 Wednesday cancellations between December 2, 2026, and February 24, 2027.
  • Anand Vihar-Bhagalpur Garib Rath Express (22405): This service will see 13 Thursday cancellations between December 3, 2026, and February 26, 2027.
  • Kamakhya-Gaya Express: Weekly Monday services will be canceled from December 7 to February 22.
  • Gaya-Kamakhya Express: Weekly Tuesday services will be canceled from December 8 to February 23.

Advanced Fog Management and Safety Protocols

To mitigate the risks associated with heavy fog, railway authorities have implemented an advanced fog-management plan. GPS-based Fog Safe Devices (FSDs) have already been installed in locomotives to assist in navigating low-visibility conditions.

However, officials have noted that during periods of extreme fog, safety remains the priority, which may necessitate reduced train speeds or temporary halts. These disruptions are expected to cause significant inconvenience, particularly as they coincide with the peak wedding and festival season.

Passengers are strongly advised to verify their specific train status through official channels before beginning their journey.
