Winter Fog Alert: Major Train Cancellations Announced

Indian Railways has announced a massive wave of service adjustments to combat the operational challenges posed by dense winter fog. Spanning from December 1, 2026, to February 28, 2027, these changes include significant train cancellations and frequency reductions across several key zones to prioritize passenger safety and operational efficiency.
Safety Measures Amid Low Visibility
Despite the implementation of GPS-based Fog Safe Devices (FSDs) on locomotives, low visibility remains a critical concern for rail operations. Officials have emphasized that these pre-emptive measures are necessary to prevent cascading delays and potential safety hazards.
Naveen Kumar, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, noted that these pre-emptive actions are vital to prevent cascading delays and safety hazards caused by low visibility.
Amit Sudarshan, Chief Public Relations Officer of North Western Railway, stated that these measures are essential for protected rail operations in fog-prone sectors.
