Managing the influx of passengers at railway stations during festive periods like Diwali and Chhath Puja poses significant challenges for the Railway Administration (Indian Railways). To address this issue, a temporary ban on the sale of platform tickets has been implemented at several major railway stations. This measure aims to ensure that only passengers with confirmed train tickets are allowed onto the platforms, thereby reducing unnecessary crowding.

Ban on Sale of Platform Tickets

The ban on platform ticket sales is effective from October 25 to November 6 at key stations including New Delhi Railway Station, Old Delhi, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Anand Vihar Terminal, Delhi Sarai Rohilla, and Ghaziabad railway station. Officials report that relatives often purchase platform tickets to assist passengers, further contributing to congestion. By restricting access, the administration aims to limit the number of non-passengers on the platforms during this busy travel period.

Steps to Ensure Passenger Convenience

With a significant increase in passenger numbers during festivals, this initiative has been implemented to facilitate better crowd management. However, exceptions have been made for elderly, women, and illiterate passengers to ensure that they do not encounter difficulties while navigating the stations. This approach seeks to maintain safety and efficiency while accommodating those who may require assistance at the stations.
