Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) has officially secured a major Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract from the East Central Railway. This development, confirmed to stock exchanges on July 28, 2026, marks a significant step forward in enhancing rail connectivity across Bihar. The project is set to be completed within a timeframe of 1095 days, or approximately three years.

• Total project value of ₹358.97 crore.
• Doubling of 41.04 kilometers of rail track.
• Project location covers the Kundwa Chainpur to Raxaul section in the Samastipur Division.
• Infrastructure to be built according to 25T Indian Railway standard loading specifications.
Scope of the Infrastructure Boost
This project is a vital component of the railway’s ongoing efforts to decongest busy routes and improve travel times for both passengers and freight. The scope of work is extensive, covering not just the laying of new tracks but a complete overhaul of the section’s infrastructure. RVNL will be responsible for earthwork, blanketing, and the construction of both major and minor bridges. Additionally, the contract includes the development of station buildings, platform upgrades, and necessary improvements to level crossings to ensure higher safety standards and operational efficiency.
Strengthening the Order Book
By securing this contract, RVNL continues to bolster its already impressive project portfolio. As of March 31, 2026, the company reported an order book value of ₹99,262 crore. Before receiving the formal Letter of Acceptance (LOA), the company had already established itself as the lowest bidder (L1) for the tender. According to company reports, this new order accounts for approximately 6.7% of RVNL’s average quarterly revenue from the previous four quarters.
This project reflects the broader push by the Ministry of Railways to modernize infrastructure in Bihar, aiming to support the growing demand for rail travel in the region. With no related-party interests involved in the agreement, the project is set to proceed as a transparent and critical infrastructure development for the East Central Railway.
