In a major boost to passenger amenities, the South East Central Railway (SECR) has successfully completed the installation of 89 new platform shelters across 12 railway stations in Chhattisgarh. This infrastructure upgrade, executed by the Raipur Railway Division, is part of the central government’s ambitious Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. The initiative is designed to shield passengers from harsh weather conditions, including intense summer heat and monsoon rains, ensuring a more comfortable wait for their trains.

Distribution of New Shelters
The distribution of these shelters has been strategically planned to benefit the maximum number of commuters. The breakdown of the 89 new shelters is as follows: 17 at Bhilai Power House, 12 at Mandir Hasaud, 11 at Bhilai Nagar, 8 each at Bhatapara and Tilda-Neora, 7 at Sarona, 6 each at Nipania and Hathband, 4 each at Balod, Dalli Rajhara, and Bilhas, and 2 at Marouda.
Ongoing Infrastructure Expansion
The Raipur Railway Division is not stopping here. Beyond the 12 primary stations, the administration has already completed the installation of three platform shelters at Devbaloda-Charoda. Furthermore, construction is currently in full swing for additional shelters at various other stations, including Bhaisbodh (1), Salaitola (2), Risama (2), Gunderdehi (2), Latabor (2), Lakholi (1), and Rajim (1).
Railway officials have stated that the selection of stations for these upgrades is based on passenger volume and immediate necessity. By prioritizing high-traffic hubs and stations undergoing comprehensive redevelopment, the SECR aims to deliver a modern, safe, and passenger-friendly environment for all travelers. This project reflects the Indian Railways’ broader commitment to enhancing the overall travel experience through targeted infrastructure investments.
