People of Kurukshetra will soon get relief from traffic jams as the ₹350 crore elevated railway track project reaches its final stage. District Deputy Commissioner Vishram Kumar Meena stated on June 25, 2026, that the remaining work will be completed within 10 to 12 days. The government will be requested for an inauguration date shortly, with the track expected to open for the public in July 2026.
What are the key features of the Kurukshetra Elevated Track?
The project is being built by the Haryana Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation (HRIDC) with joint funding from the Haryana Government and the Ministry of Railways. This 6-kilometer long track is the second of its kind in India. It includes an elevated station at Thanesar equipped with modern booking counters, lifts, escalators, and improved waiting areas for passengers.
How will this project benefit the local public?
The main goal of this project is to remove 5 manned railway crossings on the Kurukshetra-Narwana line that pass through the city. By moving the trains to an elevated track, the city will be freed from frequent traffic jams. This will improve the safety and speed of both road and rail traffic for the local residents and commuters.
