Chitrakootdham Railway Station has officially commenced work on a major infrastructure project aimed at enhancing passenger convenience and safety. The railway authorities have started the construction of a new 12-foot-wide foot overbridge (FOB), a significant upgrade designed to streamline movement across the station premises. This development comes as a welcome relief for thousands of daily commuters and pilgrims who frequent this important station. The project, which was officially reported on Monday, July 27, 2026, marks a pivotal step in the ongoing efforts to modernize station facilities.
- Construction of a 12-foot-wide modern foot overbridge is now underway.
- The new structure will connect platforms one, two, and three.
- New lift facilities will be installed for the elderly, disabled, and women.
- The existing three-foot-wide bridge will be widened to six feet.
Improving Passenger Experience and Crowd Management
Chitrakootdham is a major transit point for pilgrims, experiencing massive surges in footfall during festivals like Amavasya Mela, Diwali, and Ram Navami. According to Station Master Suresh Kumar, the current infrastructure struggles to keep pace with these peak crowd levels. The new 12-foot-wide bridge is specifically engineered to handle high-density traffic, ensuring that passengers can move between platforms safely and efficiently without the risk of dangerous overcrowding.
Accessibility and Modernization
A key highlight of this project is the focus on inclusivity. The railway department has confirmed that the new overbridge will feature modern lift facilities. This addition is a crucial move to assist elderly passengers, differently-abled individuals, and women traveling with heavy luggage or children, making the station significantly more accessible.
In addition to the new bridge, the railway authorities have also announced plans to upgrade the existing, narrow three-foot-wide foot overbridge. By widening this structure to six feet, the station will effectively double its capacity for passenger transit. These combined efforts reflect the Indian Railways’ commitment to upgrading transit hubs to meet the growing demands of modern travel while ensuring a safer and more comfortable environment for all passengers.
