The Raipur Railway Division of the South East Central Railway (SECR) is actively transforming its station infrastructure to enhance passenger convenience and safety. As of July 2026, the division is executing major modernization works under the nationwide Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, which aims to convert railway stations into modern, integrated transport hubs. - Completion of 89 new platform shelters across 12 stations to provide better weather protection.

Significant Infrastructure Upgrades
To improve passenger comfort during waiting periods, the division has successfully installed 620 new three-seater stainless steel benches and 478 sturdy RCC benches. These have been strategically placed at major hubs, with 90 benches at Bhilai Nagar, 70 at Raipur, and 32 at Durg. Furthermore, the construction of platform shelters is being fast-tracked. Specifically, 11 shelters have been added at Bhilai Nagar, 17 at Bhilai Power House, and 12 at Mandir Hasoud. The division is also extending these improvements to stations outside the primary scheme list, with three new shelters already completed at Devbaloda-Charoda and ongoing work at Bhaisbod and Rajim.
Focus on Modernization and Heritage
The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, launched by the Ministry of Railways in December 2022, emphasizes a comprehensive redevelopment approach. Stations are being redesigned to reflect local culture and heritage while ensuring world-class amenities. This momentum follows the recent virtual inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 17, 2026, which featured the upgraded Sarona station, modernized at a cost of approximately 14 crore rupees, alongside Champa and Balod stations in Chhattisgarh.
