The East Coast Railway (ECoR) has officially introduced an advanced AI-powered robotic security platform, DSC ARJUN (Dedicated Security Chassis Advanced Railway Junction Under Network Enabled Surveillance), at Puri Railway Station. Unveiled on July 22, 2026, this high-tech initiative is designed to bolster surveillance and manage the massive influx of pilgrims during the ongoing Rath Yatra festivities, including the Bahuda Yatra, Suna Vesha, and Adharapana rituals.

- Operational Capacity: Built by Rovvor at a cost of Rs 40 lakh, with a 5-6 hour battery life and a 5-6 km patrol range.
Smart Surveillance at Puri Station
As the Bahuda Yatra commences on July 24, 2026, the presence of DSC ARJUN provides a significant safety boost. The robot is equipped with seven 360-degree cameras and sophisticated sensors for obstacle and edge detection. Beyond simple patrolling, it features an integrated public announcement system, allowing authorities to broadcast safety messages directly to the crowds. The AI capabilities enable the robot to perform live video streaming and generate instant alerts, making it far more versatile than traditional static CCTV cameras.
Future Deployment and Vision
East Coast Railway General Manager Parmeshwar Funkwal emphasized that the railways are committed to integrating cutting-edge technology to protect passengers. The robot is capable of reaching spaces that are typically difficult for station cameras to cover, ensuring a comprehensive security net. While the deployment is currently focused on the festive rush at Puri, railway officials have indicated that DSC ARJUN may be permanently shifted to Bhubaneswar railway station once the Rath Yatra concludes.
This deployment highlights the growing reliance on robotics in Indian Railways to handle large-scale crowd management, ensuring that the RPF can focus their efforts more effectively while utilizing the robot as a modern force multiplier in high-density areas like platforms and circulating zones.
