Details of the Operation
According to Siddhnath Patidar, the Inspector in-charge of the RPF Kanpur Central post, the team was conducting intensive surveillance and passenger checks at Govindpuri station. During the inspection of Train number 12987, officials found a passenger in coach S-2, berth 68, carrying suspicious items. Upon further investigation, the RPF team uncovered gold concealed in two plastic bags.
The RPF immediately coordinated with a local jeweler, Sammi Bhalla, to weigh and verify the haul. It was confirmed that the passenger was carrying 185 grams of gold in total. Following the initial detention, the RPF successfully laid a trap and apprehended the receiver who had arrived at the station to collect the illicit goods.
Arrests and Legal Proceedings
The individuals arrested have been identified as Sanjay Ram, a resident of Bihar who was transporting the gold, and Deepak, a resident of Chakeri, Kanpur, who acted as the receiver. Preliminary investigations suggest the gold was being smuggled to evade government taxes.
Given the nature of the crime, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) Lucknow was immediately notified. The RPF has officially handed over both suspects, the 185 grams of gold, and all other personal belongings recovered during the search to the DRI for further legal action and investigation into the smuggling network.
